Easy Guide to Paint Your Cabinets At Home

To give an attractive and lively look to your kitchen you can add up color to the walls. If have done that then you can also color the cabinets to make them look more fresh and pleasant. In order to make your kitchen attractive, you will have plenty of options. Here is one way of doing it, why not painting the cabinets? Painting sure is not easy but if you follow the right steps, then you can get through the project successfully. Here they are explained in detail:

Step 1:

The first step is to decide what things are required to do the task. Gather some palette and swatches for this. If you are willing to replace your kitchen cabinets then you should get them before doing anything. This is because the old fittings are different in size than the new fittings. So before you begin, you must be sure that your old and new fittings are in the right place with equal distance. It would be a right thing to clean up all the grease marks, mess and dirt stuck on the cabinets, drawers and doors with some cleaner or soap before you start the paint job. Soap and a sponge will do the work, no special cleaners are required.

Step 2:
Now you have to take off all the fittings from the cabinets, doors and drawers. It does not matter whether the fittings are old or new or you are going to replace them, just take them off and store them in a safe place. After removing all the hinges, find some place where you can lay a big piece of cloth or plastic sheet in which you can place your cabinets, doors and drawers and start the painting job. In this way, you won’t damage any other valuable part of your house. You will be able to easily paint all the parts of your kitchen by spreading them on the cloth and preventing paint stains to get on to the floor.

Step 3:
The next step is to see if the new hinges you are using fit in the existing holes of the doors, cabinets and drawers. If not then you can take the help of the wood filler and fill up the holes. The wood fillings are available in many colors and when it comes in filling the holes up then it really does not matter in which color you apply the paint as you are going to paint the wood ware afterwards.

Step 4:
The fourth step is to sand the cabinets. The wood ware that is smooth and shiny might not get a firm layer of paint. So in order to paint the surface thoroughly, we need to rough things up a little so that whatever type of paint is going to be applied can stay firm on the surface of the wood ware.

Step 5:
The fifth step is to apply the primer before the paint so that the paint done on the wood ware stays longer. Just a single coat of the primer would be enough to let the paint stick onto the wood ware.

Step 6:
Now the time comes when you are finally going to apply the paint on the wood ware. After waiting for the primer to dry (it might take an entire day) you will be ready to paint all of the wooden pieces. A polyester roller will be best for painting. Also apply latex paint for smooth finish.

After you have applied the latex wait for it to dry off. When it is dried then the gather everything together and fix the drawers, cabinets and doors in their places.
